The Johannesburg Stock Exchange has marked its first Main Board admission of 2026 with the inward secondary listing of Aimia Inc., a Toronto headquartered diversified investment group listed on the TSX and now trading on the JSE under the code AII. The development builds on the solid pipeline of listings recorded in 2025 and underscores the Exchange’s continued attractiveness to international companies seeking African capital.
Aimia operates as an investment holding company focused on acquiring and scaling controlling interests in established operating businesses. Its strategy prioritises cash generative assets and disciplined capital deployment. The portfolio includes exposure to industrial manufacturing through Cortland and outdoor advertising through Clear Media, positioning the group within sectors considered durable and structurally resilient.
Management’s capital strategy is centred on unlocking shareholder value by lowering holding company costs, narrowing the discount between market valuation and net asset value, and utilising tax loss carryforwards efficiently. A secondary listing on the JSE is expected to diversify the shareholder base, enhance trading liquidity and enable participation by South African institutional investors, including pension funds.
For the JSE, the transaction reinforces its standing as a conduit between global issuers and African investors. It follows the approval of the Exchange’s Simplification Project by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority in December 2025, a reform initiative designed to streamline listing requirements and improve speed to market.
The listing was executed through the JSE’s fast track admission framework, available to companies already quoted on recognized international exchanges such as the Toronto Stock Exchange. This structure provides domestic investors with exposure to global industrial and manufacturing themes without the need to externalize capital.
With this addition, the JSE’s Main Board now comprises 265 listed companies, representing a combined market capitalisation of more than R25 trillion.
